Celebrating the 'Shine A Light' Award: Reflections on Empowering Others to Illuminate the Path Ahead

On Friday, I received the ‘Shine A Light’ award from the Jewish Federation of Broward County ✨️

.

For the record, they reached out to me about this BEFORE learning that my mom is Jewish ☝🏼😌

.

Denise Lettau -- the distinguished emcee who introduced me & The Golden People to the audience -- referred to me as ‘Dr. Star’ because I “write medicine into my music.” 😅

.

And she's right, cuz music really does have global healing powers 🌎🌍🌏

.

That said, I believe success is measured not in likes, but in lives touched.

.

I’m also pretty sure that LOVE is a common denominator across all mainstream religions ∞

.

So, since music crosses borders and communicates to people in ways that general conversation can't…

.

Can we please start putting more love into our lyrics?

.

Not corny love…

.

Genuine love.

.

The kind of love that values other people over self.

.

The kind of love that likes to see other people win.

.

I’ve swum upstream as an #ImpactArtist for most of my career…

.

But I can feel the currents shifting in real time.

.

#ImpactMusic is coming to the forefront of culture in a big way...

.

So I’ma jus keep on givin’ hope while bein’ dope like I been doin' ✌🏼😎

.

Thank you again to @jewish_broward for this humbling award.

.

I feel seen, honored, and affirmed 🎶🌟✨
